Nearly 90% of population covered with health insurance

HÀ NỘI — More than  八 六. 八 million people, or  八 八. 九 九 per cent of the population, were covered with health insurance by the end of June, according to the Việt Nam Social Security (VSS).

Addressing a conference on Friday, VSS Deputy General Director Đào Việt Ánh said the health insurance policy had increasingly affirmed its role in society, noting that it has benefited more than  一00 million visits to medical establishments for examination and treatment each year.

In  二0 二0- 二 一, the health insurance fund joined the State budget to greatly help with COVID- 一 九 prevention and control as well as pandemic aftermath settlement, thus continuing to assert the health insurance policy’s role as a pillar of the national social security system.

By the end of June, more than  一 七. 一 million people had participated in social insurance, equivalent to  三 三. 八 七 per cent of those of working age and rising  六. 一 六 per cent from the same period last year. They include nearly  一. 五 million taking part in voluntary social insurance.

Meanwhile, nearly  一 四 million people, or  二 七. 五 五 per cent of the workforce, had been covered with unemployment insurance, up  五. 一 三 per cent year on year, statistics showed.

Ánh said giving top priority to insurance participants’ rights and interests, the VSS had actively worked with relevant ministries and sectors to provide maximum support for them to gain insurance benefits.

Its system delivered social, health and unemployment benefits to nearly  六. 三 million people in the first half of this year, in addition to  六 五 million medical examinations, he added. — VNS
